My name is 유지민/Yu Ji-min, but I think some of you might know me more as 카리나/Karina. You can call me with Karina, Rina, Jimin or Yooji.
I was announced as the second member of aespa, a Korean girl group under SM Entertainment, and made my debut in November 2020. Heart ❤ is my official symbol in the group. Does it sound cringe if I say “Karina is the Heart of aespa”? I hope it isn’t!
I’m also a member of the company’s female unit group, GOT the beat, debuted in late 2021! Or was it in early 2022? I’m not really sure, but let’s just not make a big deal out of it. :D
Anyway, is it okay to self proclaim myself as an Ace-ries? Because I was born in April 11, 2000 and I think I’m an ace in a few things. I’m in charge as the leader, main dancer and rapper of aespa. I also sing! So.. you get where this ‘ace’ came from, right? (Kidding!)
Next is, if you wonder where is this ‘Karina’ stage name come from, I’m a Catholic and my baptismal name is Katarina. I’m glad the company decided to choose Karina because I really feel like I am my own self even after debuting. TMI but they have 우아/Woo Ah (elegant), Jasmine and 지온/Zeon for my stage name options. Those names are beautiful with its own meaning, but Katarina — Karina just feels personal to me.
I don’t think it’s easy to be an open book, but from today onwards, I’ll make sure you know a bit about me better right from my lips.
